How to make a Realistic Towel, Carpet and Grass in 3ds max

A fantastic tutorial to make complex fiber texture which can be a good example on how to make a 3D Towel , Carpet or Grass with the same concept.To replicate this is cg, the obvious solution is to use a hair system to produce those fibers. The results will look good, especially close up, but that technique is perhaps overkill, especially if the object is off in the distance. Hair can be expensive to render, and time consuming to set up. So this tutorial explains a method to do objects such as Towels, Carpets or Grass using displacement.

This script method was inspired by Copy/Paste Obects by Christopher Grant.
It’s not a TRUE copy/paste via the windows clipboard – but it will let you very quickly copy animation bip from one file to

another.

Usage:
Select the biped objects with animation you want to copy. Run ‘copy bip’. Now run the ‘paste bip’ into either the same file

or you can load another instance of max and ‘paste’ animation bip into another biped.

3DS MAX (2013) development updates

3ds max 2013
Ken Pimentel has posted some info that features the upcoming future release of 3ds max 2013 developments. Among the highlights, the post mentions that Autodesk has hired once again Oleg Bayborodin, the original author of Particle Flow, to research and develop new Particle Flow capabilities for Max and integrate it with XBR’s unified physics system.

Ken personally is super pleased with this initiative and there will be consequences based on the priorities we see in it. Of course, we don’t use just this tool to drive our agenda, but it is something that helps us make decisions about what you want. It’s not just about features, we actually focused on the “Small Annoying Things” forum and tackled about 15 of the highest priorities.
